There are questions and answers on the last pages of this book. The author of this book used her family members as characters in the story. In the beginning of the story, Gary, a 10 year old boy does not appreciate his family. Gary thinks if he were an animal like his pet mouse Timmy, life would be much happier. After making a wish and blowing out the candles on his birthday cake, Timmy the mouse runs out of the house and Gary runs after him. Gary trips over his scooter and when he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a big forest as an orange beaver. Gary then comes upon other animals and realizes he has turned his whole family into animals based on his bithday wish. Now, through spending a year in the forest, Gary learns to be happy with himself and all his family members. Gary learns many good lessens in the forest. After spending a full year in the forest, Gary finds out it is his birthday again. His animal family organize another birthday party celebration. When Gary blows out his candle he makes a wish to be a human boy again. This story has a great surpise ending that children will just love.
